Active power Filter (APF) is a new type of power electronic device used to dynamically suppress harmonics and compensate reactive power. It can compensate the harmonics and reactive power that vary in size and frequency. APF monitors the current in the line in real time, converts the analog current signal into digital signal, sends the signal to the high-speed digital signal processor (DSP) for processing, separates the harmonics from the fundamental wave, and sends the drive pulse to the compensated current generating circuit in the form of pulse width modulation (PWM) signal. Drive IGBT(insulated gate bipolar transistor) or IPM power module, and generate harmonic current amplitude equal to the power grid, the opposite polarity of the compensation current into the power grid, harmonic current compensation or offset, active elimination of power harmonics 
APF has two kinds of parallel and series, of which the shunt active filter is mainly used to control current harmonics, and the series active filter is mainly used to control voltage harmonics and other problems. Compared with passive filter, APF governance effect is good, can filter out multiple and high harmonics at the same time, will not cause resonance, but the price is relatively high
